Caustic Soda

Sodium hydroxide, or caustic soda, is used in the production of many items in our everyday lives. Our production of liquid caustic soda provides a regionally competitive source for this important alkali product.

What It’s Used For

Caustic soda is used as the primary strong base in the chemical industry and as a key ingredient in the production of industrial and household cleaning products, pharmaceuticals, and water treatment chemicals. Furthermore, caustic soda also plays a key role in the processing of wood pulp to create paper and cardboard products that are widely used to transport goods today. Additional applications include detergent production, oil drilling, fuel processing, biodiesel production, and more.

Our caustic soda meets all requirements of the American Water Works Standard ANSI/AWWA B501-03. It has also been tested and certified by the National Sanitation Foundation for use in pH adjustment. It is a non-food-grade product containing no allergens, sensitizing agents, sulfites, or monosodium glutamate.

How It’s Transported

Caustic soda is available in bulk quantities as a 50% liquid solution and can be shipped by specialty tank railcar or specialty tanker truck.

How It’s Made

Genesis Alkali manufactures chemical-grade caustic soda, which is produced by reacting soda ash with lime to make a 10% solution which is then concentrated through evaporation.
